Football Recap: Lameik Black Jr's Menacing Defense Leads St. Joseph over Ridgefield

St. Joseph never let their opponents score on Friday. They took down the Ridgefield Tigers 16-0. The win continues a trend for the Cadets in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won eight in a row.

Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed ten in total. All came from Jake Rios: he went 3-for-3 kicking field goals for nine points and added another on an extra point kick.

St. Joseph didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Lameik Black Jr, Finn Kilmartin, Kyle Wicker, and Rios picked up one apiece.

St. Joseph now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Ridgefield, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 3-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. After each having a week off, St. Joseph and Darien will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 1:30 p.m. on the 25th. The Blue Wave's defense has only allowed 13 points per game this season, so the Cadets' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Ridgefield, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Bridgeport Central at 7:00 p.m. on the 24th. The Tigers will be up against the Hilltoppers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 32 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
