Softball Recap: Grand Island Comes Up Short

Grand Island fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Lincoln North Star on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 11-8 to the Navigators. The loss continues a trend for the Islanders in their meetings with the Navigators: they've now lost five in a row.

Liliana Ascencion made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Karstyn Zuelow, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Grand Island's defeat dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Lincoln North Star, their victory bumped their record up to 5-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Grand Island will head out to face off against Columbus at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lincoln North Star, they will venture away from home to take on Millard West at 9:00 a.m. on Friday. The Wildcats' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Navigators' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
