Basketball Recap: Newbury Park Comes Up Short

After flying high against Calabasas last Monday, Newbury Park came back down to earth. The Newbury Park Panthers came up short against the Westlake Warriors on Wednesday, falling 58-37. The Panthers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-11.

It was another big night for Mathis Dritz, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 16 rebounds for Westlake. That makes it four consecutive games in which Dritz has scored at least a third of Westlake's points. Another player making a difference was Taylor Swanson, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten boards.

Newbury Park's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 13-7. As for Westlake, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-4.

Newbury Park wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 37-25 defeat against Thousand Oaks on the 17th. Westlake has also already played their next game, a 77-47 win against Oaks Christian on the 17th.
