Preview: Mars Fightin' Planets vs. Hampton Talbots
Mars is 8-2 against Hampton since February of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Mars Fightin' Planets will head out on the road to face off against the Hampton Talbots at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Mars focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Saturday.
Mars suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Saturday. They were the victim of a rough 63-42 defeat at the hands of Lincoln Park Performing Arts. While losing is never fun, Mars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 220th, while Lincoln Park Performing Arts is ranked 12th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Vita Vargo, who scored 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cecilia Christy, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Hampton waltzed into their contest on Thursday with six straight wins but they left with seven. They claimed a resounding 47-15 win over New Castle on the road. Hampton has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 31 points or more this season.
Mars' defeat dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Hampton, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a massive bump to their 9-5 record this season.
Mars strolled past Hampton in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 by a score of 54-40. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mars since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
