Preview: Saint Joseph Jesters vs. Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary Cardinals
Saint Joseph is 1-9 against Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Saint Joseph Jesters will head out on the road to face off against the Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Saint Joseph focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Monday.
Last Monday, Saint Joseph was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 46-42 to Geffen Academy. Saint Joseph has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Leah Zabukovac, who scored eight points along with five rebounds. She continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Sophia Velonza, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary was able to grind out a solid win over Serra on Tuesday, taking the game 46-36.
Saint Joseph has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-7 record this season. As for Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary, they pushed their record up to 14-9 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road.
Saint Joseph was taken down by Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary 54-16 in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Saint Joseph was down 43-8.
