Soccer Game Preview: Venice vs. Palisades

Venice hasn't had much luck against Palisades recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Venice Gondoliers will head out to take on the Palisades Dolphins at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Palisades better have a healthy lead at halftime, because if last week is any indication, that's when Venice really get things going. Everything went Venice's way against Los Angeles CES on Monday as Venice made off with a 5-1 victory. The win continues a trend for the Gondoliers in their matchups with the Unicorns: they've now won three in a row.

Meanwhile, Palisades waltzed into their matchup on Monday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. They never let the Wildcats onto the board and left with a 6-0 victory. Given the Dolphins' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 57th, while the Wildcats are ranked 891st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Palisades pushed their record up to 15-1 with the win, which was their tenth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up four goals over those ten games. As for Venice, their victory bumped their record up to 13-5-3.

Venice came up short against Palisades in their previous matchup on Friday, falling 3-1. Can Venice avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
