Softball Game Preview: Oelwein Huskies vs. Sumner-Fredericksburg Cougars

Oelwein is 2-8 against Sumner-Fredericksburg since June of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Huskies will host the Cougars. Oelwein is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.

On Monday, Oelwein was able to grind out a solid victory over North Fayette Valley, taking the game 8-5. That's two games straight that the Huskies have won by exactly three runs.

Meanwhile, after only one run in their last match, Sumner-Fredericksburg made sure to put some runs up on the board against Crestwood on Monday. The Cougars put the hurt on the Cadets with a sharp 10-1 win. Considering the Cougars have won 13 games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Sumner-Fredericksburg has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 19-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games. As for Oelwein, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-11.

Oelwein might still be hurting after the 14-4 defeat they got from Sumner-Fredericksburg when the teams last played last Tuesday. Can the Huskies avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
