Baseball Recap: Douglass Takes a Loss

Douglass was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 11-9 heartbreaker at the hands of the Mt. Zion Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-6 on Wednesday.

Anthony Alexander was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Douglass' success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-1 (and 2-8 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Ja'Narious Barner, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3.

Douglass' defeat dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Mt. Zion, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Douglass will host Stone Mountain at 5:55 p.m. on Friday. The Pirates have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.83 runs per game on average), something the Astros will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Mt. Zion, they will be playing in front of their home fans against North Clayton at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
