Baseball Game Preview: Owensville Dutchmen vs. Eldon Mustangs

The Owensville Dutchmen will head out to take on the Eldon Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Owensville will be strutting in after a victory while Eldon will be coming in after a defeat.

While Owensville's win against Cuba wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Dutchmen sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over the Wildcats on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Dutchmen have posted against the Wildcats since May 6, 2021.

Chase Weirich made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 13 over 6.1 innings pitched. Owensville is undefeated when Weirich posts eight or more strikeouts, but 8-17 otherwise. Weirich was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one triple and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tucker Sassmann, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Gabe Medlock, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Thursday as neither Eldon nor Hallsville made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Mustangs fell just short of the Indians by a score of 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Mustangs have suffered since April 20th.

Eldon's defeat dropped their record down to 15-14. As for Owensville, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-17.
