Basketball Recap: Sandhills Valley Comes Up Short

Sandhills Valley played a tough game on Monday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 62-29 loss at the hands of the Sumner-Eddyville-Miller Mustangs. The Mavericks were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 32-9.

When it comes to explaining why Sandhills Valley lost, don't look at Ezekiel Goosey. Despite the final result, he posted 12 points and eight boards. Another player making a difference was Carsyn Gragg, who scored six points.

Sumner-Eddyville-Miller found their leader in freshman Braxton Line, who shot 47% from the field on his way to 17 points and seven steals. Line is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Preston Beattie was another key player, going 6-for-13 to rack up 13 points and three steals.

Sandhills Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Sumner-Eddyville-Miller, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Sandhills Valley will face off against Sutherland on Thursday. As for Sumner-Eddyville-Miller, they will square off against Elm Creek at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
