Hampton came into their game on Wednesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 13-3 to the Lovejoy Wildcats. One positive for the Hornets, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.
Hampton saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Aiken, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. Aiken is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now stole at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Eli McCastlin also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Hampton's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Lovejoy, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 1-3-1 record.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hampton will face off against Locust Grove at 5:55 p.m. on Friday. Hampton has given up an average of 6.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. As for Lovejoy, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Wildcats face off against the Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
