Football Recap: Christian Zeno Key Part of Team Effort in Sea Hawks Win

While Redondo Union's win against Orange wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Sea Hawks narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Panthers 14-12. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Sea Hawks also won the last time the pair played back in September of 2024.

Redondo Union's win on Friday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Christian Zeno, who rushed for 71 yards and one TD on only nine carries. The dominant performance also gave Zeno a new career-high in receiving yards (16). Redondo Union also got help from Adrian Ortiz, who showed off his sure hands for 100 receiving yards.

Another reason for the win was Redondo Union's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Brock Herrera refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. He was another major factor on D, picking up 1.5 sacks and making ten total tackles (2.5 for loss).

Despite the loss, Orange saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Star Thomas rushed for 66 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 225 yards and one TD while completing 75.8% of his passes.

Redondo Union's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Orange, they moved to 3-2 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Coming up, Redondo Union will head out on the road to face off against Banning at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. After each having a week off, Orange and Fountain Valley will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on October 2. This will be the Panthers' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
