Callaway and Bremen are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. The Cavaliers will head out on the road to face off against the Blue Devils at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Callaway is headed into the matchup having just suffered their biggest defeat since February 17th on Monday. They lost 14-4 to Pepperell. The Cavaliers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Callaway saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Wesley Williams, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Bremen had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it ten on Monday. They never let the Bulldogs get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory. The Blue Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by six runs or more this season.
Eli Brock made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Nolan Sosebee looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Dylan Huey, who scored two runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-3. He also launched a home run, marking his first of the season. Chase Palmer was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-4.
Bremen's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-9. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Callaway, their loss dropped their record down to 16-10.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Callaway has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .434. However, it's not like Bremen struggles in that department as they've averaged .440. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Callaway came out on top in a nail-biter against Bremen in their previous matchup back in March of 2022, sneaking past 2-0. Will the Cavaliers repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
