Basketball Recap: La Quinta Beats Xavier Prep for Their Second Straight Victory

If Xavier Prep wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played La Quinta, they should've done a better job of containing Leahnette Castro-Galarza. The La Quinta Blackhawks came out on top against the Xavier Prep Saints by a score of 48-41 on Monday thanks in part to Castro-Galarza, who dropped a double-double with 25 points and 12 boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of La Quinta's points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Sophie Barrow, who posted six points in addition to 11 rebounds and five steals. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 8.1 boards per game.

Several Saints players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Grace Thomsen, who almost dropped a double-double with 25 rebounds and nine blocks. The dominant performance gave Thomsen a new career-high in boards. Emma Thomsen was another key player, putting up 19 points along with eight rebounds and five steals.

The victory made it two in a row for La Quinta and bumps their season record up to 13-11. As for Xavier Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-18.

La Quinta wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 65-9 loss against Shadow Hills on the 5th. As for Xavier Prep, they have also already played their next contest, a 49-28 defeat against Palm Desert on the 5th.
