Softball Game Preview: St. Johns Redskins vs. Joseph City Wildcats

St. Johns is 1-9 against Joseph City since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Redskins will venture away from home to square off against the Wildcats at 2:00 p.m. One thing working in St. Johns' favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last four contests.

St. Johns' pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Many Farms 23-0. Considering the Redskins have won ten matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Evanna Richardson, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Kelsey Scarbrough was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one double.

St. Johns always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .676. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .517 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Joseph City challenged Phoenix Christian on Monday. The Wildcats sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 win over the Cougars. Winning may never get old, but the Wildcats sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Joseph City's victory was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for St. Johns, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season.

St. Johns might still be hurting after the 11-3 defeat they got from Joseph City when the teams last played back in March. Can the Redskins avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
