The Edgewood Lions will square off against the Rancho Alamitos Vaqueros at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Edgewood is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Colton a 1-0 shutout. Winning may never get old, but the Lions sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Edgewood's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ricky Bocanegra, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Los Amigos typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday Rancho Alamitos proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Lobos, sneaking past 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Vaqueros have posted since April 3rd.
Ethan Shepherd made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Rancho Alamitos is 4-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 8-9 otherwise. Shepherd was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Henry Garcia, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two doubles. Rancho Alamitos is undefeated when Garcia posts three or more hits, but 8-11 otherwise. Aidan Martinez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Rancho Alamitos kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Rancho Alamitos now has a winning record of 12-11. As for Edgewood, their victory bumped their record up to 12-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Edgewood has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Rancho Alamitos struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
