The May River Sharks will face off against the Hilton Head Island Seahawks at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a five-game winning streak alive.
On Friday, May River was able to grind out a solid win over Bishop England, taking the game 14-7. The 14-point effort marked the Sharks' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
It was another big night for Sean Mitchell, who rushed for 178 yards and a pair of scores.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: May River was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 260 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 190 rushing yards in nine consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Hilton Head Island's offense rose to the challenge against a Battling Bishops defense that boasted an average of only 12.67 points allowed last Friday. The Seahawks claimed a resounding 41-10 victory over Bishop England. The result was nothing new for the Seahawks, who have now won four contests by 24 points or more so far this season.
May River better keep an eye on Thaddeus Czarnecki. He was instrumental in Hilton Head Island's win, rushing for 187 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.9 yards per carry. That's the most rushing yards Czarnecki has posted since back in October of 2024. Jayvin Risher was another key rusher, rushing for 107 yards and one TD on only ten carries.
Hilton Head Island didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Risher and Czarnecki. Another thorn in Bishop England's side was Will Jimenez, who picked up two sacks, forced one fumble, and made ten total tackles.
Hilton Head Island's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for May River, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 6-1.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. May River has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 328.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Hilton Head Island struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 223 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
