Preview: Northridge Academy Pumas vs. Kennedy Cougars
Two dominant forwards in Estrella Alejo and Andreya Villa are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Northridge Academy Pumas will square off against the Kennedy Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Northridge Academy comes in on eight and Kennedy on nine.
With a playoff game on the line, Northridge Academy rose to the challenge on Saturday. They came out on top against the Monarchs by a score of 44-34.
In what's become a running theme this season, Kennedy gave their fans yet another huge win on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Venice 47-20 at home. Given Kennedy's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 226th, while Venice is ranked 709th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Villa, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and seven steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Gabriella Valles was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five rebounds and four blocks.
Northridge Academy pushed their record up to 14-4 with that victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. As for Kennedy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 23-4 record this season.
Northridge Academy lost to Kennedy on the road by a decisive 43-24 margin when the teams last played back in December of 2015. Can Northridge Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
