Basketball Game Preview: Overton Eagles vs. Maxwell Wildcats

Overton is a perfect 10-0 against Maxwell since January of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. Having just played yesterday, the Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Wildcats at 3:30 p.m. Overton is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.8 points per game this season.

Overton is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Amherst just ended the team's eight-game winning streak on Friday. They lost 58-35 to the Broncos. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Eagles have suffered against the Broncos since January 7, 2022.

Overton's defeat came about despite a quality game from Gracen Hughes, who almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds. Hughes is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Braelyn Florell, who posted four points in addition to nine boards and three steals.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Maxwell duked it out with Hershey on Friday. The Wildcats came up short against the Panthers, falling 59-36. The Wildcats haven't had much luck with the Panthers recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

Overton's loss dropped their record down to 8-2. As for Maxwell, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.

Overton was able to grind out a solid victory over Maxwell when the teams last played back in January of 2025, winning 52-44. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
