Football Game Preview: Brookland-Cayce Bearcats vs. Midland Valley Mustangs

The Brookland-Cayce Bearcats will square off against the Midland Valley Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Brookland-Cayce will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each game than the last.

Brookland-Cayce is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 35-14 margin over South Aiken on Friday. The Bearcats have beaten the Thoroughbreds the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Thoroughbreds has come to flipping the script.

Brookland-Cayce's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Andrew Frick led the charge by throwing for 273 yards and three touchdowns while completing 74.1% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyree Johnson, who picked up 93 receiving yards and one TD.

Brookland-Cayce didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Johnson, My'Son Jones, and Bennett Plane picked up one apiece. Brookland-Cayce got some further help from Evan Simmons: he forced one fumble and made 13 total tackles.

Meanwhile, Midland Valley took a blow against Gray Collegiate Academy on Friday, falling 38-6. The loss was the Mustangs' first of the season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Midland Valley fell to 3-1. As for Brookland-Cayce, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

Brookland-Cayce suffered a grim 42-21 defeat to Midland Valley in their previous meeting back in September of 2024. Thankfully for the Bearcats, Preston Mcnair (who rushed for 84 yards and a pair of scores on only nine carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
