Basketball Recap: Gary West Side Takes a Loss

Gary West Side lost against Lake Central back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Cougars took a 50-34 bruising from the Indians. While the Cougars didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Indians 17-7 in the first quarter.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lake Central to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jakob Billmeyer, who went 6-for-8 to rack up 16 points and three steals. Those 16 points gave Billmeyer a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Enyeart, who shot 50% from the field on his way to 16 points.

Gary West Side now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Lake Central, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gary West Side will host Hammond Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. This will be the Cougars' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Lake Central, they will face off against Culver Academies at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Indians will be up against the Eagles' rather soft defense (which has allowed 60.25 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
