Basketball Recap: TAYLOR BUTLER's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lincoln over Marysville

If Lincoln was feeling good fresh off their 53-22 takedown of Wheatland last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Lincoln Fighting Zebras took a 55-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Marysville Indians on Wednesday. The Fighting Zebras were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Lincoln lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being TAYLOR BUTLER, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 17 boards. BUTLER continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. ISA KEIDEL was another key player, going 7 for 15 on her way to 17 points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Lincoln smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 13 consecutive matchups.

Marysville was led to victory by Abigail Pietz and Demi Boykin. Pietz posted 14 points in addition to five assists and five boards, while Boykin scored 15 points along with five assists and three steals. Pietz is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last 46 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Alexis Collins, who had seven points and eight rebounds.

Lincoln has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-7 record this season. As for Marysville, they pushed their record up to 15-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.

Lincoln wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 46-24 victory against Center on the 24th. As for Marysville, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, an 81-29 win against Wheatland on the 24th.
