Softball Game Preview: Northridge Grizzlies vs. Thompson Valley Eagles

Northridge is 9-1 against Thompson Valley since October of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Grizzlies will be playing at home against the Eagles at 10:00 a.m. Northridge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.

Northridge and Timnath faced off in a Battle of the Bears on Thursday. The Grizzlies walked away with a 7-2 win over the Cubs. The Grizzlies haven't had any issues with the Cubs recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Brooke Riofrio spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Bo Tellez was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Noelle Rodriguez, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Northridge kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Thompson Valley's offense. They lost 14-0 to Severance on Thursday. The defeat continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Silver Knights: they've now lost seven in a row.

Thompson Valley's loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Northridge, their win bumped their record up to 11-8.

Everything went Northridge's way against Thompson Valley in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as Northridge made off with a 15-3 victory. Will the Grizzlies repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
