Basketball Recap: Emerald Takes a Loss

Emerald was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. The matchup between the Aerouants and the Pittsburg Pirates didn't end well, with the Aerouants falling 54-38. While losing is never fun, the Aerouants can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 955th, while the Pirates are ranked 278th).

Jurnee Cox had another great game (as she tends to do), shooting 73% from the field to rack up 19 points in addition to five assists and five steals for Pittsburg. That makes it three consecutive games in which Cox has scored at least a third of the Pirates' points. Yariah Asidanya was another key player, putting up seven points along with eight rebounds and three steals.

Emerald's loss dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Pittsburg, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 12-7 record.

Emerald wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 43-22 defeat against Foothill on the 24th. As for Pittsburg, they have also already played their next game, a 62-55 win against Dougherty Valley on the 24th.
