Preview: West Fargo Packers vs. Shanley Deacons
West Fargo and Shanley are an even 3-3 against one another since October of 2015, but not for long. The West Fargo Packers will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Shanley Deacons at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th.
Last Thursday, West Fargo faced Minot in a battle between two of the state's top teams. West Fargo took a serious blow against Minot, falling 46-8.
Meanwhile, Shanley put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top against St. Mary's Central by a score of 55-42. Given Shanley's advantage in MaxPreps' North Dakota football rankings (they are ranked first, while St. Mary's Central is ranked 25th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Landon Meier had a dynamite game for Shanley, throwing for 334 yards and five touchdowns, while also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Carson Busek also deserves a shout-out for his three touchdowns.
West Fargo's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 2-7. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 14.7 points per game. As for Shanley, their victory bumped their record up to 9-0.
West Fargo took a serious blow against Shanley when the teams last played back in September, falling 57-14. Can West Fargo avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
