Baseball Recap: Belvidere Victorious

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Belvidere ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Belvidere North Blue Thunder. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Buccaneers also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2025.

Jackson Sternquist spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on six hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Belvidere is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-23 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Belvidere saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aj Vasquez, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base. That's the most hits Vasquez has posted since back in May of 2025.

Belvidere's record is now 8-25. As for Belvidere North, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-11-1.

Belvidere will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Blue Thunder: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
