Softball Recap: Gross Catholic's Winning Streak Snapped at Four Games

Gross Catholic dropped down to 10-12 on Tuesday, ending the team's four-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Crete Cardinals, falling 12-3. The Cougars were not able to make up for their loss to the Cardinals from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.

Gross Catholic saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lauren Kosse, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

As for Crete, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 22-5. Considering they have won 16 matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

On Crete's side, Madynn Dunham made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and not a single walk). Those 15 strikeouts gave Dunham a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs and one double while going 3-for-5.

In other batting news, Azalyne Beck was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted over her last 11 contests. Camry Draeger was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Coming up, Gross Catholic will welcome Plattsmouth at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Blue Devils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.23 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of. Crete does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
