Basketball Recap: Leyton Piles Up the Points Against Hyannis

A well-balanced attack led Leyton over Hyannis in every quarter on their way to victory on Saturday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Leyton Warriors blew the Hyannis Longhorns out of the water with a 68-27 final score. The Warriors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 17 matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Leyton had a senior duo take command as Shawnee Gamble dropped a double-double with 29 points and 14 boards and Zaili Benish went 11-for-21 on her way to 27 points along with seven assists and seven steals. Benish is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last 30 games she's played dating back to last season. Sydney Fortune was another key player, putting up six points in addition to six rebounds and six steals.

Leyton pushed their record up to 18-2 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 25.3 points over those games. As for Hyannis, their loss dropped their record down to 7-10.

Coincidentally, Leyton and Hyannis will both be playing Garden County the next time they take the court. Hyannis will head out to face Garden County at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Leyton will head out to face them at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
