Baseball Recap: Irrigon Comes Up Short

Irrigon extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 13-6. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Umatilla Vikings. The Knights were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Vikings earlier this season, when they won 17-11.

As for Umatilla, they moved to 11-14 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak. The game was the first time they have beaten Irrigon on their field since May 11, 2021.

For Umatilla's part, Carter Griggs spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up six Ks. Griggs has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on David Garcia, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.

As of now, neither Irrigon nor Umatilla have any future games scheduled.
