Football Game Preview: Westminster Christian Academy Lions vs. Covenant Academy Rams

The Westminster Christian Academy Lions will head out to challenge the Covenant Academy Rams at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Westminster Christian Academy is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Georgia's top teams: Westminster Schools of Augusta, who was ranked sixth at the time (Westminster Christian Academy was ranked 12th). The Lions fell 32-25 to the Wildcats on Friday. The Lions have struggled against the Wildcats recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Ethan Townsend, who rushed for 27 yards and one TD, and also threw for 84 yards and one touchdown on only eight passes. Asher Irvine also helped out with an impressive 90 receiving yards.

Covenant Academy never got on the board in their matchup last Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Grace Christian Academy on Friday. They blew past the Cougars 58-38. Considering the Rams have won four games by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Covenant Academy's win came from a few key players Westminster Christian Academy will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Ethan Mills, who threw for 227 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 13 passes, and also rushed for 49 yards and one score. His passing game has become a key predictor of Covenant Academy's success: the team is 2-1 when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 2-3 otherwise. Another back making a difference was Grant Reidl, who rushed for 68 yards and a pair of TDs.

Westminster Christian Academy's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 6-2. As for Covenant Academy, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.

Westminster Christian Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Covenant Academy in their previous matchup back in September of 2024, winning 16-8. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Rams' Asa Wood, who rushed for 170 yards and one score while picking up 8.5 yards per carry. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Lions to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
