Softball Recap: Lambert Snags Seventh Win in Last Nine Games

Lambert won the last time they faced Duluth and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Longhorns were the clear victors by an 11-3 margin over the Wildcats. The result was nothing new for the Longhorns, who have now won 11 matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Caitlin Goodwin made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in September.

In other batting news, Lambert let Payton Yi and Paige Wentworth run wild. Yi went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Wentworth went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases and three runs. That's the most runs Wentworth has posted since back in September. Another player making a difference was Avery Cole, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Lambert always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They are 6-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Lambert has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Duluth, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-14.

Looking ahead, Lambert will take on North Atlanta at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Duluth does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
