Volleyball Recap: Kenzie Hooker's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Surry Central over Forbush

If Surry Central was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of North Stokes on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Golden Eagles fell just short of the Forbush Falcons by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. The loss continues a trend for the Golden Eagles in their meetings with the Falcons: they've now lost four in a row.

Surry Central wouldn't go down easily and took Forbush into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking three-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 25-13, 25-22, 23-25, 12-25, 15-12.

Several Golden Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kenzie Hooker, who had 53 assists and 15 digs. Hooker has been hot for a while, having posted 16 or more assists the last 12 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Presley Smith, who had 18 digs, 11 kills, and five aces.

Leading Forbush to victory were Karly Berrier and Tatum Cranford. Berrier had 21 digs and seven assists, while Cranford had 13 digs. That's the most digs Cranford has posted since September 3rd.

Surry Central's defeat dropped their record down to 11-5. As for Forbush, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season.
