Softball Recap: Highlands Ranch Comes Up Short

Highlands Ranch was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Bear Creek Bears. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Falcons of the 2-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in August of 2024.

Puna Toelupe spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. Those 11 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Highlands Ranch saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bridget Nittler, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Highlands Ranch's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Bear Creek, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Looking ahead, Highlands Ranch will square off against Smoky Hill at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Bear Creek, they will head out to square off against Green Mountain at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
