Football Recap: Archbishop Mitty Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Archbishop Mitty, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They came out on top against the Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory Fightin' Irish by a score of 27-20 on Friday. For the Monarchs, this counts as revenge for the 35-28 victory the Fightin' Irish walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2024.

Archbishop Mitty had a senior duo take command as Joseph Engin rushed for 108 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries and Lazaro Faraj-Washington gained 164 total yards and a touchdown. Faraj-Washington is also crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 108 every time he's taken the field this season.

Archbishop Mitty was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 223 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 155 rushing yards in four consecutive games.

Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Michael Sargent, who threw for 167 yards and a pair of TDs. A healthy portion of that aerial production (84 yards to be exact) went to Germaine Powell, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Archbishop Mitty pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 30.7 points over those games. As for Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.

Archbishop Mitty wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 28-13 loss against Junipero Serra on the 24th. As for Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 34-29 win against Valley Christian on the 25th.
