Baseball Recap: Vernon Hills' Victory on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Vernon Hills had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 12-5 margin over the Maine East Blue Demons. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 10-0 win on Tuesday.

Ryan Mick made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs.

In other batting news, DJ Biede was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Colin McMurray was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Vernon Hills' record now sits at 7-12. As for Maine East, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-12.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vernon Hills will take on Niles West at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Maine East, they will face off against Maine West at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. The Blue Demons are facing the Warriors at the right time seeing as the Warriors are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
