Basketball Recap: Central Valley Comes Up Short

Central Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They were dealt a 51-22 loss at the hands of the Lathrop Spartans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 44-41 back in January.

Despite the loss, Central Valley still got an impressive performance from Julyanna Valencia, who posted nine points in addition to eight steals and seven rebounds. Valencia has become a key player for Central Valley: the team is 3-1 when she posts at least five steals, but 4-19 otherwise.

Lathrop's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jaleiyah Ray, who earned 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Shakara Porter, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 14 boards.

Central Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 7-20. As for Lathrop, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-14.

Coming up, Central Valley will venture away from home to take on Ceres at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Ceres has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Lathrop, they will be playing at home against Beyer at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Beyer is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.4 points per game this season.
