Basketball Recap: TARA RILEY's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Rio Hondo Prep over El Rancho

Rio Hondo Prep and El Rancho squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Rio Hondo Prep had to settle for second. They took a 49-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of the El Rancho Dons. The Kares have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second loss in a row.

Rio Hondo Prep's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was TARA RILEY, who posted eight points along with six steals and five rebounds. RILEY is becoming a predictor of Rio Hondo Prep's success: when she posts at least five steals the team is 9-2 (and 2-4 when she doesn't). Another player making a difference was EVONNY ORTEGA, who put up seven points and nine boards.

Rio Hondo Prep's loss dropped their record down to 11-6. As for El Rancho, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 21-8.

Rio Hondo Prep does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for El Rancho, they will face off against Eastside at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
