Basketball Recap: Gonzales Comes Up Short

Gonzales entered their matchup against Marina on Wednesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Gonzales Spartans lost 59-33 to the Marina Mariners. The contest marked the Spartans' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Marina was led to victory by Shekinah Williams and Mia Martin. Williams dropped a double-double with 22 points and ten rebounds, while Martin posted 17 points along with eight boards and five steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Williams has scored at least a third of Marina's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bianca Borja, who earned ten points.

Gonzales' loss dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Marina, the victory (which was their 14th in a row) raised their record to 18-2.

Gonzales does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Marina, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Notre Dame at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in Marina's favor as the squad sits on eight straight wins at home while Notre Dame has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
