Basketball Recap: Jay'la Ray's Big Game Can't Quite Lead George Washington Prep over King/Drew

George Washington Prep easily dispatched Dorsey last Wednesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The George Washington Prep Generals fell just short of the King/Drew Golden Eagles by a score of 46-43 on Friday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Golden Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 60-52 back in January.

Several Generals players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jay'La Ray, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds. Ray is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 21 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Jaleyah Lucien, who almost dropped a double-double with ten points and nine boards.

Even though they lost, George Washington Prep smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in eight consecutive matchups.

George Washington Prep's loss dropped their record down to 16-5. As for King/Drew, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-12 record this season.

George Washington Prep wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 48-21 win against Fremont on the 10th. King/Drew has also already played their next match (against Dorsey), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
