Basketball Game Preview: Montgomery Aztecs vs. Bonita Vista Barons

Montgomery is 1-9 against Bonita Vista since February of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Montgomery Aztecs will square off against the Bonita Vista Barons at 6:30 p.m. Bonita Vista took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Montgomery, who comes in off a win.

Montgomery will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Mater Dei Catholic, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. Montgomery escaped with a win on Wednesday against Mater Dei Catholic by the margin of a single free throw, 42-41.

Meanwhile, Bonita Vista was not able to break out of their rough patch last Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 56-46 to Olympian.

Montgomery will need focus on slowing down Syana Trotter, one of several Bonita Vista players who made an impact when they last played. She dropped a double-double on 12 points and 16 rebounds. Trotter is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Jaidyn Lee, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 boards.

Montgomery has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.4 points per game. As for Bonita Vista, their loss dropped their record down to 5-15.

Everything came up roses for Montgomery against Bonita Vista in their previous matchup two weeks ago, as the squad secured a 66-20 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Montgomery since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
