Basketball Recap: Oakdale Comes Up Short

If Oakdale was riding high fresh off their 51-15 takedown of Buhach Colony last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Oakdale Mustangs took a hard 57-42 fall against the Calaveras Red Hawks on Friday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Mustangs of the 44-30 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2016.

Leading Calaveras to victory were Makenna Neelans and Mariah Maddock. Neelans went 8 for 17 on her way to 17 points in addition to seven steals and five assists, while Maddock posted 13 points along with eight boards and six assists. Maddock has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Kendra Baechler was another key player, putting up eight points along with seven boards and three steals.

Oakdale dropped their record down to 7-7 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Calaveras, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Oakdale will host West at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Oakdale is facing West at the right time seeing as West is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Calaveras, they will be taking part in a tournament against Granite Bay at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Calaveras is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.7 points per game this season.
