Basketball Game Preview: Riverdale Cowboys vs. Minarets Mustangs

The Riverdale Cowboys just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Minarets Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Riverdale will be strutting in after a victory while Minarets will be coming in after a loss.

Riverdale will bounce into Friday's game after beating Kings Christian, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Riverdale breezed by Kings Christian to the tune of 47-15 on Thursday. The Cowboys have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 20 points or more this season.

Riverdale relied on the efforts of Valeria Olguin, who posted 17 points, and Alyssa Valdez, who put up 12 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Olguin has scored at least a third of Riverdale's points.

Meanwhile, Minarets had to suffer through a 60-22 loss at the hands of Parlier. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1289th, while the Panthers are ranked 324th).

The win snapped Riverdale's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 11-8 record. As for Minarets, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-12.

Things could have been worse for Riverdale, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 37-23 loss to Minarets in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Riverdale avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
