Basketball Game Preview: Newark Memorial Cougars vs. James Logan Colts

Newark Memorial is 1-9 against James Logan since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Newark Memorial Cougars will face off against the James Logan Colts at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with four losses in a row, Newark Memorial turned things around against Kennedy on Thursday. They came out on top against the Titans by a score of 52-41.

Among those leading the charge was Angelina Baca, who posted 20 points. Bella Wijangco was another key player, putting up eight points.

Meanwhile, James Logan had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They escaped with a win against the Wildcats by the margin of a single free throw, 45-44.

James Logan's win came from a few key players Newark Memorial will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Tyliyah Miller, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 18 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Iwalani Lealao, who had 15 points and four steals.

James Logan smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Newark Memorial's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 6-9. As for James Logan, their record is now 9-5.

Newark Memorial took a serious blow against James Logan in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 69-25. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Newark Memorial was down 36-15.
