Baseball Game Preview: Calvary Christian Knights vs. Brookstone Cougars

For the second straight game, Calvary Christian will face off against Brookstone. The Knights will take on the Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Calvary Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.

Calvary Christian will head out to face Brookstone after giving up their first home loss of the season on Tuesday. The Knights took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cougars. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Knights couldn't push the score so high this time.

For Brookstone's part, Luke Lowery spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Brennan Neal was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Mercer Hudson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Neal wasn't the only one making solid contact: Brookstone kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Calvary Christian only managed four hits.

Brookstone has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Calvary Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-11.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Calvary Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Brookstone struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
