Softball Recap: Logan-Rogersville Sets Scoring Season-High Against New Covenant Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Logan-Rogersville). They were the clear victors by a 16-10 margin over the New Covenant Academy Warriors on Thursday. This was payback for the Wildcats, who suffered a 17-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Riley Mathieson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and nine unearned) runs on six hits.

On the hitting side, Avery Robinson was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Courtney Batey, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Logan-Rogersville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.

The win got Logan-Rogersville back to even at 5-5. As for New Covenant Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.

Looking ahead, Logan-Rogersville is taking a road trip to take on Waynesville at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for New Covenant Academy, they will host Halfway at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
