Baseball Game Preview: Newman Central Catholic Comets vs. Belvidere Buccaneers

The Newman Central Catholic Comets will face off against the Belvidere Buccaneers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

Newman Central Catholic barely beat Milledgeville the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Comets put the hurt on the Missiles with a sharp 14-6 victory on Thursday. Considering the Comets have won 19 contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Michael Morse made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, Ashton Miner was excellent, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2025. Garet Wolfe was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Meanwhile, Belvidere got the win against Rockford East on Monday by a conclusive 12-1.

Newman Central Catholic's win was their 13th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 26-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Belvidere, their win bumped their record up to 9-26.
