Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Monroe

Monroe had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They blew past the Spencer Greenwave 13-3. The result was nothing new for the Golden Tornadoes, who have now won four games by six runs or more so far this season.

Kameron Vicks was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off one hit. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last eight games he's played dating back to last season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Javion Tinch, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. He has been hot, having posted three or more stolen bases the last five times he's played. Chamarr Astin was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Monroe always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .562 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Monroe's record now sits at 4-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Monroe will face off against Sherwood Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Spencer, they will square off against Jordan at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The game will give the Greenwave their first taste of in-conference action this season.
