Preview: Torrey Pines Falcons vs. Sage Creek Bobcats

Torrey Pines is 7-0 against the Bobcats since January of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Torrey Pines Falcons will play host again and welcome the Sage Creek Bobcats, where tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

A well-balanced attack led Torrey Pines over the Mustangs in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Torrey Pines blew past the Mustangs 55-35. Given Torrey Pines' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 309th, while the Mustangs are ranked 655th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Torrey Pines' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Grace Trusso led the charge by scoring ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Averi Kwok, who scored nine points along with two steals.

Meanwhile, Sage Creek's game on Tuesday was all tied up 23-23 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They managed a 55-50 victory over Oceanside. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 14 more assists than your opponent, as Sage Creek did.

Sage Creek's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Harmony Lawler, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Lawler is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least nine every time she's taken the court this season. Hannah Keehn was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven assists.

Torrey Pines has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a massive bump to their 13-12 record this season. As for Sage Creek, their win bumped their record up to 14-8.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Torrey Pines have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Sage Creek struggles in that department as they've been averaging 41 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Everything came up roses for Torrey Pines against the Bobcats when the teams last played back in January as the squad secured a 57-30 win. Will Torrey Pines repeat their success, or do the Bobcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
