Softball Recap: Deerfield-Windsor Takes a Loss

Deerfield-Windsor had lost four straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 5-13 to make it five. They lost 13-0 to the Tiftarea Academy Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-6 back in September.

As for Tiftarea Academy, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-6. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by eight runs or more this season.

For Tiftarea Academy's part, Raelyn Owens made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Owens has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That stolen base was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cloe Sercer, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season. Calla Joyner was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Deerfield-Windsor does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Tiftarea Academy, they are taking a road trip to challenge Telfair County at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
