Football Recap: Arnold Yazzie Leads Shiprock's Defense on Thursday + How To Watch

Shiprock was the 40-18 winner over Gallup when they last played one another back in October of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Chieftains came up short against the Bengals on Thursday, falling 40-20. The Chieftains were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 32-6.

Shiprock didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Arnold Yazzie, Arnesto Manygoat, and Zach Billy picked up one apiece.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gallup to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jayson Bruner, who picked up 109 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The Bengals are 3-1 when Bruner posts 80 or more receiving yards, but 2-4 otherwise. Another signal caller making a difference was Tristan Garcia, who threw for 213 yards and three TDs.

This is the second loss in a row for Shiprock and nudges their season record down to 1-9. As for Gallup, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season.
